Husband & Wife Team Take Over OBX Landmark

Sandwiched between the Wright Brother’s Memorial and the Atlantic Ocean, just off NC-12 in Kill Devil Hills, you’ll find Stop N Shop Convenience & Deli. This business is a landmark on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, offering the millions of tourists who vacation there a "one-stop-shop" for all their beach-going needs. From groceries, snacks, candy, and beer to tobacco, clothing, sunglasses and fishing supplies, there’s something at Stop N Shop for just about everyone.

About the Seller

Founded by Tom and Vickie Byers in April 1989, the store began with a 2000 sq. ft. retail facility. But as the Outer Banks grew in popularity among vacationers, so too did Stop N Shop. In 1998, the Byers decided to add 5000 sq. ft. of retail space, along with new underground gas storage tanks and pumps to take advantage of the growing demand.

Within walking distance of the busiest public beach access in the area, six major hotels, and many tourist destinations, Stop N Shop continued to attract large amounts of foot traffic over the years, becoming one of the busiest convenience stores on the beach.

Selling the Business

This, along with the superior customer service and products is what attracted buyers Nayna and Jay Patel to the business.

Nayna and Jay Patel were searching for a convenience store with real estate to purchase in North Carolina when they found Stop N Shop. After learning about the opportunity, watching the marketing video, and reading the confidential information memorandum, they were very interested.

The pair visited Kill Devil Hills to learn more about Stop N Shop, and decided they wanted to purchase the business. So, they sold their liquor store in Delaware, picked up their family, and moved their lives to the Outer Banks. Today, they are the proud owners of this Outer Banks landmark, which continues to grow and prosper on the foundation established by the Byers.

This sale was completed by Jeffery Baxter of MidStreet Mergers & Acquisitions.

“Stop N Shop Convenience and Deli is well-known on the Outer Banks, so it’s an honor to have represented Thomas and Vickie during this sale. I can’t wait to see where Jay and Nayna take the business. I know they’re going to do great.” Said Baxter.
